What your AI assistant can do in Chat Thing
Once connected, your assistant can do most of what you can do in the Chat Thing dashboard. You don't need to learn these tool names: your assistant finds them automatically and picks the right one. Use this page to see what to ask for.
Tools that change something need you to be an Owner or Admin of the bot's team. Read-only tools work in any team you belong to. See What your assistant can access.
Bots
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
list_teams | Lists your teams and your role in each |
list_bots | Lists the bots in your teams |
get_bot | Reads a bot's settings |
list_models | Lists the AI models a bot can use |
create_bot | Creates a bot with a name, instructions and optional model. The bot gets a website widget so you can test it straight away |
update_bot | Changes a bot's settings, such as its instructions, model, welcome message, example questions and retrieval settings |
delete_bot | Deletes a bot and everything in it. This can't be undone |
Knowledge (data sources)
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
discover_pages | Previews which pages of a website would be added, from a sitemap, a crawl or a list of URLs. Adds nothing |
list_discovered_pages | Lists every page found by discover_pages |
add_data_source | Adds a website, RSS feed, YouTube or manual (typed text) data source |
list_data_sources | Lists a bot's data sources and whether they've synced |
get_data_source | Reads one data source and its sync status |
list_data_source_rows | Lists the pages or entries inside a data source |
update_data_source | Adds or removes pages or entries, and changes settings such as the sync schedule |
sync_data_source | Re-syncs a data source so the bot learns about changes |
delete_data_source | Deletes a data source. This can't be undone |
File and Notion sources can't be added through your assistant yet. Add them in the dashboard: see Knowledge.
Power-ups
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
list_power_up_types | Lists the power-ups you can add |
get_power_up_schema | Shows the settings a power-up needs |
list_provider_connections | Checks which accounts (for example a calendar or email provider) your team has connected, for power-ups that need one |
list_power_ups | Lists the power-ups on a bot |
create_power_up | Adds a power-up, such as talk to a human or call your API |
update_power_up | Changes a power-up's name, description or settings |
toggle_power_up_enabled | Turns a power-up on or off without deleting it |
delete_power_up | Deletes a power-up. This can't be undone |
Power-ups that connect to another service (such as a calendar) need that account connected in the dashboard first. See Power-ups.

| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
get_web_channel_schema | Shows every widget setting you can change |
get_web_channel | Reads the widget's current settings |

|---|---|
search_docs | Search the Chat Thing docs |
get_doc | Reads a Chat Thing docs page |
Your assistant can look things up in these docs while it works, so it follows the same instructions you would.
How your assistant configures things
Power-ups, the website widget and webhooks all work the same way, and your assistant follows this pattern on its own:
- List the types (
list_power_up_types,list_hook_types) to see what's available. - Get the schema (
get_power_up_schema,get_hook_schema,get_web_channel_schema) to learn exactly which settings a type needs. - Create or update it with those settings.
If a setting is wrong, Chat Thing replies with the problem field by field, so your assistant can fix it and try again. This is why it can set up a power-up correctly without you spelling out every setting.
Limits
- Bots created before the current bot format ("v1" bots) can be read but not changed through your assistant. Change them in the dashboard.
- Everything your assistant does counts towards your plan's limits in the same way as the dashboard, such as the number of bots and data sources and your message and storage tokens. See Plans.
