Most power-ups handle common use cases: Zapier, Notion, Google Search. But what if you need something custom? What if your agent needs to check hotel availability, pull weather data, or interact with your internal systems?
The Use API power-up lets your agent call any REST API.
🚨
⚠️ Advanced Feature: This power-up requires knowledge of APIs, JSON, and how to structure HTTP requests. For simpler integrations, consider Zapier first.
## What Can You Build?
- Hotel Booking agent - Check real-time availability from your booking system
- Weather agent - Pull live forecasts from any weather API
- Server Monitor - Query your infrastructure metrics and alert on issues
- E-commerce Helper - Check stock levels, track orders, or search products
## How It Works
You define:
1. Arguments - What info should your agent collect? (dates, locations, IDs, etc.)
2. Endpoint - The API URL to call (can include dynamic arguments)
3. Headers - Authentication tokens, API keys, etc.
4. Request Body - For POST/PUT requests, define the JSON body
Your agent collects the arguments through natural conversation, then makes the API call and responds with the results.
## Example: Availability Search
Arguments: arrivalDate, departureDate, guests
User: "I need a cottage for 4 people, arriving March 15th"
Agent: Collects dates → Calls your availability API → Returns available properties
## Tips
- Keep API responses small - Large JSON payloads can hit context limits
- Use the Response Prompt to transform data before returning it
- Debug using the "View details" link in conversations
