# Turn Your Notion Workspace into an AI-Powered Assistant

Notion is where your team lives. Your docs, databases, tasks, meeting notes, project plans - it's all there. But what if the people who need those answers are not in your Notion workspace at all? Your customers, your website visitors, your community on WhatsApp or Slack?

That is where Chat Thing comes in. Notion's own AI is great for questions while you are working inside Notion. Chat Thing uses your Notion workspace as the brain and database behind an AI agent you can put in front of everyone outside it, on your website, in chat apps, or on a shared link, with no code and without giving anyone access to Notion itself.

## First, the Two Ways to Connect Notion

Before you dive in, it helps to know there are two different ways to bring Notion into a Chat Thing agent, and they do different jobs:

- As a data source - Point your agent at Notion pages and databases so it can read them as background knowledge. This is read-only, like giving your agent a snapshot of your content to learn from.
- As power-ups - Give your agent live tools to query, read, search, and even write to Notion in real time while it chats.

Many of the best agents use both: a data source for general knowledge, and power-ups for live lookups and actions. The rest of this post is about the power-ups, because that is where things get really powerful.

## The Five Notion Power-ups

We offer five different Notion power-ups, each designed for a specific purpose:

1. Save to Notion Database - Your agent can create or update database entries. Perfect for feature request agents, meal trackers, or lead capture.
2. Query a Notion Database - Ask questions like "Show me all tasks assigned to Chris that are in progress" and get instant answers.
3. Read a Notion Page - Pull in page content on the fly. Great for getting details after listing items from a database.
4. Search for a Page - Find pages by title across your entire workspace.
5. Search for a Database - Locate databases by name when you have multiple.

## Real-World Use Cases

- Feature Request Agent - Users suggest features via your agent → Saved directly to your feature requests database
- Project Management Buddy - "How many tasks does Chris have in progress?" → Queries your tasks database and responds
- HR Knowledge Agent - Employees ask policy questions → Agent reads from your HR docs in Notion
- Meal Tracker - "I had a chicken salad for lunch" → Agent estimates calories, saves to your meals database
- Bookmarking agent - see something cool, give the URL to your agent, get it to research it, categorise it, and save it to a notion bookmark database

## Why Not Just Use Notion AI?

Notion AI is brilliant for asking questions about your workspace while you are inside Notion. Chat Thing is built for everything that happens outside it:

- Reach people outside your workspace - Put your agent on your website, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, or a shareable link, so customers and visitors get answers with no Notion login
- Control what they can see and do - Expose one database or a few pages, not your whole workspace, so your internal notes stay internal
- Real-time data - Power-ups query Notion live, so you always get the latest information
- Write access, not just answers - Your agent can create and update Notion entries live, so a feature request or captured lead lands straight in the right database
- Filtering - The query power-up can filter results just like a Notion view, so answers stay precise
- Make it yours - Combine Notion with other power-ups and data sources, your brand voice, and your own persona, so it feels like part of your product, not a generic assistant

## Get Started

Connect your Notion workspace in Chat Thing, add the power-ups you need, and start building. Your agent will auto-generate smart descriptions based on your database schema - just review and go.

Sometimes the built-in power-ups aren't enough. The Use API power-up lets your agent call any REST API directly, so it can check hotel availability, pull live weather data, or query your own internal systems, no pre-built integration required.

Why settle for one generalist agent when you can build a team of specialists? The Agent-to-Agent power-up lets your agents delegate tasks, ask each other questions, and combine expertise, so complex requests get handled by the right expert every time.

Every conversation your website agent has is a missed opportunity if it just disappears. The Email power-up changes that, letting your agent capture visitor details, flag bugs, and send conversation summaries straight to your team's inbox, no forms and no friction required.
