We've just added thirteen new models to Chat Thing. Most of them are welcome additions you can quietly switch to and get on with your day. One of them is worth stopping for.
## GPT-5.6 is here, in three flavours
OpenAI's latest line comes in three tiers, and we've added all of them, each with a Pro variant on top:
- **GPT-5.6 Luna** is the light, fast one. It's the cheapest way to run a genuinely good bot at scale, the sort you'd point at a busy support widget that's answering the same handful of questions a thousand times a day.
- **GPT-5.6 Terra** is the sensible middle. Strong reasoning without the flagship price tag. If you're not sure where to start, start here.
- **GPT-5.6 Sol** is the clever one. Reach for it when a conversation genuinely needs it: multi-step reasoning, careful tone, tricky retrieval across a big knowledge base.
## Pick the tier that fits the job
One thing we'd rather you heard from us, because it's easy to get wrong. The 5.6 line as a whole is more efficient than the flagship generation it replaces, but the three tiers are not priced the same, and it pays to be deliberate about which you reach for.
Chat Thing meters usage in message tokens, and every model carries a multiplier, so pricier models eat more of your allowance per message. Luna is genuinely cheap, the kind of model you can leave running on a busy widget without watching the meter. Terra sits in the middle and is the one most bots will happily run as their day-to-day driver. Sol is the premium tier: noticeably more expensive than the other two, and not the model we'd point a high-traffic bot at as its always-on driver. It's lighter on tokens than the previous Pro-tier flagship, but it's still the one you reach for on purpose, for the conversations that genuinely need the extra reasoning, rather than the default you run everywhere.
The good news is you don't have to choose once. Run Luna or Terra as your workhorse, and switch a bot up to Sol for the jobs that really call for it.
## A 1.05M-token context window, on every tier
All six GPT-5.6 models can hold about 1.05 million tokens of context at once, which is plenty to keep a large knowledge base, long documents and the full back-and-forth of a conversation in play without losing the thread halfway through a support chat. They all handle vision, so you can send them an image, and they all support power-ups, so they can take actions, call tools and hit your APIs.
## It's not only GPT-5.6
The same release brought a good crowd along with it:
- **Claude Sonnet 5** and **Claude Opus 4.7 (Fast)**
- **Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite**
- **Grok 4.5** and **Grok 4.20**
- **GLM 5.2**
- **DeepSeek V4 Flash**
Chat Thing has always let you pick the brain and leave the rest to us. This just gave you thirteen more to pick from.
## A few smaller things while we're here
The models are the headline, but a handful of other bits landed in the same stretch:
- **Sign in with Google or GitHub.** Create an account or log in with one click, no password to remember. Microsoft sign-in is on the way.
- **Rotate your channel secrets.** You can now regenerate your API secret and WhatsApp verify token straight from channel settings, handy if one ever leaks or you're just keeping things tidy.
- **Friendlier error pages.** If you ever hit a 404 or a hiccup, you'll get a branded, helpful page instead of a bare error.
- **A refreshed site.** New feature pages, a dedicated Analytics page, and a homepage that loads quicker.
## Taking it for a spin
Open your bot, head to General settings, then Advanced, and open the model dropdown. Pick a GPT-5.6 tier and send a test message. Not sure which? Terra's a lovely default. Running something high-traffic? Try Luna. Need the bot to handle the hard stuff? That's what Sol is for.
Model selection is available on Standard plans and above. If you're on a plan below that, you'll still get a great default model, you just won't see the picker.
